I am at the Apple release event right now, with about 230 people in the line infront of me. I wanted to get a picture of all the apple nerds lined up, but one of the mall's rentacops shoo'd me off insisting that no pictures were to be taken in the mall. I was amused by my reaction of completely and automatically dismissing the petty authority he was trying to assert. I just couldn't take him seriously. I wasn't at all deterred. I had no sense of remorse. If anything, I might try again later to get the shot an not get caught. It's just a game, apparently.

Yeah. What sucks about malls is that they have, in effect, taken over public space and privatized it, creating "public" places in which security guards have veto power over people's behavior. Also: congratulations on your automatic dismissal of petty authority :-)

dude. mall security guys are so funny.

I remember once M and I were at an airport, and some luggage clerk got into a fight with M about our lost luggage, and told M he needed to stay at the luggage desk until the police came to arrest him for being a troublemaker at the airport and "threatening" the luggage clerk (what he had threatened was to stay there until he got his luggage back, which just made the whole thing ironic). The guy went to call the police, and M was all, 'Oh no' and I was like, "Whatever, he can't detain you, let's go." And we walked to the other luggage counter, where they apologized profusely and bought us dinner.
