Some Democrats cheer when they see the Republicans getting crazier, because they think it'll help them win. I don't. I'd really like to see the whole country, perhaps especially those crazy Republicans, get more reasonable.

The Republicans clearly need a lesson in "crazy = don't get elected" before they can start getting more reasonable.

I think that Republicans (specifically, Tea Party-ers) getting more crazy is actually a symptom of parts of American civilization getting more crazy. And that scares the bejeezus out of me. I'm with you: more reasonable behavior all 'round.

My impression is that the country has *always* had large minorities of crazy, perhaps ebbing and flowing with time, but mostly staying in the same general range. For a few decades, when mass media dominated public debate, they were partly shut out of view and influence, but that era has ended.
