Chasing Amy
Oct. 6th, 2002 05:00 pmJust saw "Chasing Amy" for the first time. I don't like it. The dramatic irony rubbed me the wrong way. The tension of a hero walking up to a door the audience knows the boogeyman is hiding behind was lost and it became a bunch of anti-heroes just making stupid choices to drive along a plot based on the failing attempts (involving more stupidity) to correct the preceding stupidity we had to watch.
Ok, maybe I'm being too hard on a movie that is about mere mortals, average human beings, our fellow men and women. Maybe I've gotten too used to watching heroes that can divine the right solution to any situation. Maybe the plot was too predictable and I was just annoyed at knowing they were about to do something stupid. And maybe I'm just a wee bit arrogant for thinking I could have done better in their situations.
On the other hand, I've spent a few years "Chasing Amy" myself.
