Is it art?

[livejournal.com profile] mzrowan and I spent Thursday afternoon wandering around a sculpture garden at UCLA and Santa Monica.

One fascinating thing was this piece of sculpture in whose courtyard a bunch of loose bricks had been left:

The bricks were much more interesting than the glob of bronze. Who had put these bricks here? Was this loosely laid wall some sort of art installation? Was it designed to be participatory?

In the end [livejournal.com profile] mzrowan added a brick to the wall from the pile, and I adjusted a brick on the wall that had been mis-laid.

For a good time, stand inside a giant oddly warped sheet of iron (don't get much of that in a normal day, eh?):

I'm a sucker for a good sandcastle (Santa Monica beach):

I'm really impressed by the arches he got. I'll have to try for bigger next time I'm sandsculpting.
