purchasing decisions

I've been mulling over getting a $900 chair for the home office for months. It would be a good, durable thing that would give me many years of improved sitting. Monday Apple upgraded the MacBooks and within a couple hours I placed an order. It should be here next week wednesday, and have a useful-to-me lifespan of 2-3 years. (Current laptop to be retired at 2.7 years.) I think this must have something to say about how I am more comfortable thinking about technology than furniture.

I want an Aeron. I know they're good. I would just go order one from sit4less.com if I really wanted one.

After the last 3 days of WFH, I'm seriously considering a good chair for home as well (though I like how the plain wooden one I have looks, with my plain wooden desk). I've owned an Aeron for years and never regretted it, but I keep it at the office (it's at its 3rd job with me) and because they're on wheels a second Aeron would chew up my wooden floor.

Ideas for a plain or funky, ergonomically great, non-wheeled chair gladly accepted. Anything up to Aeron price is fine with me.

I got a Mirra, same company, different chair line.

For the CS professional, especially one with active extracurriculars, I believe the furniture investment pays off in the long run as much or more than the technology one.

My first major purchase wasn't a new computer, it was my chair - and I think it was an excellent decision.

I've had an Aeron at work for 5 years. They're not the best for sitting in for long periods of time, especially for people with longer legs or bigger leg muscles. The mesh sinks a bit, causing a pressure point above the knees. If I sit in it for more than a couple hours, my legs actually get tired.
